Ratan Tata needs no introduction when it comes to discussing the Tata Group. He established himself as a leading business personality and showed his active involvement in philanthropic activities. He worked as a chairperson of Tata Sons and Tata Group from 1991 to 2012. He handled the responsibilities as an interim chairperson in 2012 and then, in 2018. 

He tried to encourage new ideas and innovations in his business conglomerates from salt to software. Many young minds globally received opportunities to work in Tata companies. He wanted to bring the best minds with innovative minds to lead to the growth and boost in the Indian Economy. However, this legendary personality left us with his memories and positive mindset on 9th October 2024. He is not with us, his memories stay with us forever.

Early Life & Parents

Ratan Tata was born on 28th December 1937 in a Pasi Zoroastrian family. He completed his schooling from Champion School till 8th grade, Cathedral & John Connon School in Mumbai. Then, he planned to move to Riverdale Country School in New York City for his graduation. He joined Cornell University and completed his degree BS in Architecture.

Ratan Tata Career & Business Achievements

Ratan received a managerial position at Tata Group in 1970. He showed his stiff resistance to various subsidiaries and made some policies that helped improve the organization’s work. He along with the team implemented several decisions on employee salary, pension fund contributions, and retirement age-related decisions.

It helped in the growth and development of their company. Ratan along with JRD Tata made a way with their business to be remembered as legendary leaders in shaping business and boosting India’s economy. In his working tenure, the profits of Tata Group increased upto 40 times.

His leadership and vision helped Tata companies to expand and acquire major car companies  Tetley, Tata Motors, Jaguar Land Rover, Corus, and Tata Steel. He invested in Snapdeal, Teabox, Cashkaro.com, and Dogspot. He started a companionship company for India’s elder population Goodfellows. 

Philanthropic Activities

Tata supported medicine, rural development, and education. He is considered a leading philanthropist in India. He supported the University of New South Wales Faculty of Engineering providing portable drinking water to many locations struggling with water scarcity globally. 

Tata Education and Development Trust launched a philanthropic endowment program of value of $28 million under the Tata Scholarship Fund. It allows Cornell University to get talented students to study in educational institutions. Tata Trust granted funds of value $750 million to the Centre Of Neurosciences, Indian Institute of Sciences. It studies the mechanisms of Alzheimer’s and knows the underlying causes behind it.

Personal Life & Death News

Ratan Tata was never married. He was quite close to his friend Shantanu Naidu. He appointed Shantanu to work in his company as his Personal Assistant. He was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital due to severe health issues on 7th October 2024. He died on 9th October 2024 due to age-related issues and low blood pressure. A day of mourning is arranged by the Government Of Maharashtra and Government Of Jharkhand after his death.
